When a follicle has developed on your ovary, how long until ovulation happens?

It can take several days. I am taking injectible medications under the care of a specialist to help with ovulation. I start forming follicles around cd 5 and I usually have mature follicles by cd 12. This is with medications so it could take a little longer for a woman not on treatments. The follicle forms and then grows to maturity and then releases. I had an ultrasound done on cd 10 (after 5 days of treatments) and some follicles were around 14 mm (a few smaller ones too) and on cd 12 (after 2 more days of meds) I had some as large as 19 mm. 18-20 mm is considered mature. It can take several days after a follicle develops before it matures and releases an egg. The best indication of ovulation is to take an ovulation monitor. If you are under the care of an RE they can track follicle growth via ultrasound and once they release the egg, the follicle disappears therefore creating an assumption an egg has been released since an egg cannot be visualized via ultrasound.
