I think I should be tested for polycystic ovary syndrome?

I learned today about PCOS on the realage website where I read that it is the cause of a significant portion of obesity in women. When I looked into the disease I found I had a lot of the symptoms, such as irregular and heavy periods, weight gain around my middle, acne and dandruff, and constant pelvic pain. I think this is something I should get checked out, but many sites recommend seeing a specialist and my insurance will not cover that. What should I do? Does anyone know a site where I can find a specialist in my area (Denver)?

Your regular doctor can help you out, although you really should see an endocrinologist. Will your insurance cover a specialist if you were referred by your regular doctor?

  1. I was diagnosed by my obgyn for PCOS right in her office just by the signs. They did send me to get an internal ultrasound to see how bad the pearl like cysts on my ovaries were. Then they did an HSG to make sure my ovaries weren't blocked.
