What happens if you are pregnant and you are diagnosed with ovary Cancer?

they think my sister has ovary cancer and she is pregnant. i dont want any thig to happen to the baby. will they be ok?

What happens if you are pregnant and you are diagnosed with ovary Cancer?
I read a story once about a woman this happened to. She had been unable to conceive, and then learned just after being diagnosed with ovarian cancer that she was pregnant. She refused any kind of treatment out of fear it would hurt the baby. She was warned that she and the baby could die if she let it go that long. But she held on. She had a perfectly healthy baby boy, and then when she went to begin cancer treatments, it was gone! It was as if the pregnancy had healed her. I'm not saying this will be the case for your sister, but the body is an amazing thing. And of course, don't leave God out of the picture- He can do anything!
Reply:I am a survivor of cancer during pregnancy. I suggest you refer to the Pregnant with Cancer Network. They helped me tremendously in many ways including providing me with a physician to talk to! http://www.pregnantwithcancer.... Report It

Reply:see the DR. why ask here.
Reply:Your sister should look at the many alternative cures for cancer.

A good start would be to look at this page.

Reply:She should be OK. The ovaries produce the eggs, but the baby develops inside the mother's uterus, so they can operate on the ovaries without getting too close to the baby. Now, I don't want to mislead you -- there's always a risk in surgery, and surgery on a pregnant woman is more risky still, but you can bet that the doctors will exercise extra-special care when operating on your sister. Try not to worry, and I wish you and your sister the best.

Will contraception affect my ability to fall pregnant after loosing an ovary and tube?

At the age of 19, i lost my right ovary and tube due to a cyst. The doc at the time said i should have kids in the following couple of years. Now at the age of 24, i have over the last few years been on the needle. Would this have affected or minimised my chances of conceiving? It has always been a dream to have kids and i am scared that this may not happen. I am off the needle but it has taken a long time for things to go back to somewhat normal.

Will contraception affect my ability to fall pregnant after loosing an ovary and tube?
not by much just a bit I'm sure u will be pg in no time good luck and baby dust to u!
Reply:I think you have a good chance. I wish you luck and baby dust.
Reply:When you say on the needle I assume you mean a injected contraceptive/anti-ovulation med like depo-provera, Lupron etc?

I too did have a Left oophorectomy with tube. I had been on a variety of depo- meds which prevented ovulation/periods up to just a month before that operation, and Exactly 7 weeks after having the ovary removed, I became pregnant. I did ovulate right away, almost like nothing had happened.

But my sister IS having a great deal of trouble getting pregnant after being on the shot for 5 years. Dr. says is could take up to a few YEARS for her to ovulate and get normal cycles again.

I guess it all depends on the person. It is definitley not unheard of..

My friend had one of her ovaries removed at the age of 24. She got married at 32 and had two kids without problems.

Of course, everybody is different, but looks like it should be ok.
Reply:If it is healty will keep working until she goes through her change of life.

What are the risks of having a cyst on your ovary? Should I have surgery?

I am 28, had an ultrasound last Wednesday, the tech said that she found a cyst on my right ovary. I didn't get really scared until I got home and researched on the net. Just need some advice. Thanks!

What are the risks of having a cyst on your ovary? Should I have surgery?
If it is a functional cyst, these usually disappear within 60 days without treatment and are relatively common. Since functional ovarian cysts typically go away without treatment within 1 to 2 menstrual cycles, your dr may recommend a period of observation without treatment to see whether your ovarian cyst gets better or goes away on its own. Your dr will do another pelvic exam in 1 to 2 months to see whether the cyst has changed in size. If the cyst comes and goes, your doctor may prescribe birth control pills. These will reduce the hormones that promote growth and prevent formation of large cysts. If the cyst doesn't go away, then your doctor may want to surgically remove it. If it causes severe pain, then your doctor would have it surgically removed without trying birth control pills.
Reply:very common..if no symptoms no need to worry. if pain etc then might need to get it dealt with.
Reply:I have had 2 ovarian cysts and had them both removed. When the first one was removed I was diagnosed with endometriosis. After removing the cyst they also removed all the endo they found. Endo is a strange condition, research it a little and see if you need to have a lapascropy to have it diagnosed. It could be why you have a cyst.

Many medical personnell are still learning about endo and its effects. There are specialists scattered around the country that can help. I'm researching every day so that I hopefully no longer have to deal with cysts, pain, and this endo!!

check out the yahoo health group: ERC. Very informative!
Reply:i have a patient during my school days and she had to go under surgery which is removal of the ovary...

well, you know what at first i saw her hardship but then she was able to compenstae and she has a strong body..

if you have a good doctor.well there's nothing to worry about... kust be strong... have faith and relax.. everything gonna be fine... dont let your cyst kill you....
Reply:Most ovarian cysts are completely innocuous, needing no further attention. I suppose the main problem with having an internal cysts is the fact that you can't monitor it without the need to have in scanned at hospital. generally, once a cyst is discovered that isn't threatening to health, a physician or doctor would just require that you check it from time to time to make sure no changes have occured in size, shape, colour, etc. since yours is internal, you cant do this. i would be pretty sure that if it had the potential to become problematical, your doc would have made arrangements for further invasive action to reduce the risk. if s/he hasn't, then don't be concerned about it at all.
Reply:An ovarian cyst isn't necessarily malignant. If and only if the cyst starts attacking the stem cells within the ovary will it lead to pregnancy complications and/or cancer.

People have cysts all the time and survive just fine. There is a lot of uproar from doctors making a stink about things they think they know all about. The truth is, we are even today only beginning to scratch the surface of how the body works and what influences it to disobey the rules.

If you're worried, have your doctor keep a close eye on it. Get a second opinion. There are more markers than that for a putative problem, and even if you have surgery, it may not fix the problem. It didn't for my ex.
Reply:Calm down. I want you to stop researching on the internet, as it just makes people more nervous!

I have a cyst on my left ovary. It has been there since March of last year. My gyno put me on birth control pills to help control the cyst so it wouldn't continue to grow or anything. As long as your cyst stays below 5cm in size you should be able to avoid having surgery. Don't be surprised if your gyno puts you on birth control to help shrink it. Once your cyst is controlled with the pill it'll shrink. Sometimes another one will pop up and it'll hurt a little bit, but your pill will continue to fight them, and your gyno will monitor them at each yearly exam.

On another note, my best friend had a cyst on her left ovary last year. Hers did not shrink when she was placed on birth control, in fact, it continued to grow. She had the surgery to remove it, and has been fine ever since.

Speak to your gyno about it. He/She will probably place you on birth control for a month, bring you back in for a check-up and as long as your cyst has shrunk you'll be okay without surgery, if it grows on the pill, most likely they'll want to cut it out.

Don't worry. Ovarian cysts are happening more and more often now. Your gyno will know exactly what to do, and will keep you informed about everything. Good Luck! :-)

Has anyone had an ovarian cyst that was so bad they had to remove your whole ovary?

I am having surgery to remove an ovarian cyst from my right ovary tomorrow. My doctor has said that most likely they will have to remove at least my right ovary if not my right ovary and tube. I am only 27 I am very concerned right now about what might happen.

Has anyone had an ovarian cyst that was so bad they had to remove your whole ovary?
my wife had it done . simple op . her down time about 3 or 4 weeks.

What usually happens when you have a cyst on ovary?

I recently went to the doctor for annual gyno exam. They did a sonogram since I was having reoccuring pain and found a cyst on my right ovary. I have to wait a month to go back for another sonogram! What I want to know is if anyone has had cysts, what happened with them, etc. I've already had a blood test done that ruled out cancer, so I'm not worried about that. The doctor didn't make any assumptions or tell me a lot about it, since it may go away by itself. I just want to be prepared for IF it doesn't go away. Whats more, he told me I shouldn't try to get pregnant til we figure out whats going on with this...I was trying.

What usually happens when you have a cyst on ovary?
The short of it is they may just shrink and pretty much dissapear but i wasnt that lucky i didnt know that i actually had them but i awoke one moring with what felt like contractions i was quite scared and made a call for help saying that i was having contraction pains my dad freaked out but i wasnt even pregnant it just felt like that. I ended up in hospital on two occasions with the same thing the pain was the cyst bursting it was horrible i was on morphine for days some women may not experience that much pain but i sure did all up last year i was in hospital for over two weeks, and they say that im pone to getting them again. During both hospital stays i has a operation called a laproscopic surgery (key hole) that is horrible they fill you stomach with gas so they can fiddle around in there with plenty of room when i came to i felt so sore and bloated and quiet embarrassed as the next few days in hospital i had to relase that gas you know what i mean. I hope i have helped you with you concern but i hope ur not scared as they will more that likely dissapear. Also on the pregnancy thing i would get a second opinion as my cousin had two large cysts on her ovary during her pregnancy.if you have anymore questions plz email me.
Reply:I just went through this. This is a fairly common occurance in women. Since I wasn't yet on birth control when I was diagnosed my gyno told me that If I go on it, it would help me regulate my testosterone because higher testosterone is one of the factors. If anything, you might to have surgery, but is not invasive, and is very minor, and you would still be able to concieve. For more information go here:

Reply:I had the SAME thing. What eventually happened was the fibroid cysts became so large on both ovaries that they ended up doing a Radical Hysterectomy. If your young or haven't had children yet you won't want them doing that!!! However that was about 13 years ago and what I have learned is that they can now take the cysts off without removing the ovary....If they say you'll NEED a Hysterectomy please be prepared. They never told me until after wards that they made not one BUT Two very large incisions, one vertical and the other a bikini line...Since then I have little to no feeling in my stomach. I have trouble passing any bowels mainly because they cut through the main muscle and the nerves that makes the stomach contract...In a nutshell I wish someone had been HONEST with me. Then I would have known what I was in for. Now at 44 years of age, I have brittle bones...I couldn't take any estrogen replacements....Please get as MANY opinions from as many doctors as possible..and I will be thinking of you. Best of luck.....
Reply:You really need to get your answers from your dr. But, I'll tell you what happened with me. I had multiple cysts, she said the size of silver dollars and bigger, to many to count. They scheduled me for outpatient surgery, and froze them off. The first time did it. And I've just finished my 10th year check up! Everything has been fine since. Dont let people scare you. There are many different outcomes. Talk to you dr. and if your not satisfied with the treatment, get another dr. Dont let a dr treat you like your beneath them, make them talk to you, ask questions. about treatment, meds. make a list if you need to , I did! Good luck! And try not to worry, everything will work out!
Reply:its not really a problem, i had an ultrasound a few years back indicating that i had a cyst on the right ovary. my doctor said not to worry about it. on my latest check up 2 months ago, it seems that those cysts were no longer found on the ultrasound.

my doctor did not warn me about not getting pregnant, actually i am already pregnant right now.
Reply:my ob/gyn said they come and go every month and that they burst right before you start...which causes the pain ( in my case, it puts me completly down)...you may ask about birth control where you do not have a period except for a couple times a year...this helps me alot....and during my first pregnancy I had the massive pain at least one to two weeks a month til I had my little one...I would try to find out first
Reply:I actually dont quite know why he told you to quit trying because I am pregnant an dwhen i got my first ultrasound they found a cyst in my ovary and said it was normal....they said it would come out when i had the baby it would just make me feel a little more unconfortable
Reply:I actually had a cyst burst on my ovary, but after the initial pain of it bursting, was the sigh of relief of the pain and pressure I was feeling. The doctor should be giving you medication to help with the cyst..is he not? I wouldn't think it wise to try and get pregnant while having these issues, but you should be just fine with no ill effects.

Does one have to have ovary removed if a septated cyst is IN the ovary and not on the ovary?

I have a cyst a little over 1 cm in my left ovary. It is causing a great deal of pain. It was found to be a septated cyst, which I don't know what that means. Currently we are waiting to see if it shrinks with a new birth control pill. However, if the cyst is IN the ovary as opposed to On the ovary, will I have to have the whole ovary removed?

Does one have to have ovary removed if a septated cyst is IN the ovary and not on the ovary?
If it's in the ovary it will most likely have to be removed, and you may lose the ovary. Hopefully it will shrink though.
Reply:I would ask a gynecologist for advice on that. There are some medications that help shrink cysts but not for sure about yours. If it is painful you need to have something done.

How long is the eggs lifespan after it is released from the ovary?

How long is the eggs lifespan after it is released from the ovary?

How long is the eggs lifespan after it is released from the ovary?
12-24 hours
Reply:it usually dies if it isnt fertilized during your brief moment of ovulation. which is like 12-14 days after you cycle. and you will need to take your basal body temp to know exactly when that is...
Reply:About 24 hours only.
Reply:24 hours... you have 24 hours from when you ovulate.. till when the egg is no longer able to be fertilized.
Reply:An egg has a twenty-four hour life span. After ovulation, the mature egg remains alive in the fallopian tube only for about 24 hours.
Reply:The longest is 24 hours. Sperm can last longer tho so you have 2 days before ovulation, the day of ovulation and the day after ovulation to get that egg fertilized.
Reply:estimated 12-24 hours

How likely is is to get preggo with only one ovary?

I still get my regular periods but I only have the one ovary cause they removed the other due to an overgrown cyst. I am not on any form of birth control. I am not really wanting another child but wouldn't be totally upset if I had a boy. Already have a girl.

How likely is is to get preggo with only one ovary?
well its able to happen i have a friend that had a child and she has 1 ovary
Reply:My mother had nine children with just one ovary. So I guess your answer is very easy!
Reply:The ovary you have should still ovulate normally meaning it releases an egg every other month. So rather than having a chance of conceiving 12 times a year you should have a chance to conceive about 6 times a year. It's entirely possible it just takes timing.
Reply:I lost my left ovary when they did my c-section with my second son. They were trying to remove a cyst and it ruptured. Needless to say six months later I was pregnant with my daughter. :)

What happens to my hormones with only one ovary?

I was just diagnosed with a dermoid cyst on one of my ovaries. The doctor has said the cyst is large enough that he is going to have to remove the ovary with the cyst. What are the side effects to my hormones with only one ovary?

What happens to my hormones with only one ovary?
the one ovary will produce all the hormones you need.
Reply:The one ovary will take over for the other, so you the ovary left will ovulate all the time instead of taking turns. I had one ovary removed 22 years ago and have had no problem. You won't notice any difference.
Reply:ur other ovary will produce eggs the same way but more as it compensate for the lacking one......u can still have kids with one ovary...
Reply:Probably not much. One is sufficient to provide the necessary normones, as well as eggs if you want to have children.
