Vet could not spay kitten because left ovary was attached to liver. He was afraid of bleeding?

This was new to me. Has anyone experienced this?

What causes this to happen? Is it a hereditary defect?

Is it possible that another vet would be more proficient at this type of spay?

I would "shop around" for another Vet....at least, for a second opinion !! I've never heard of this happening, but..... there's always a "first time" i guess.
Reply:I agree that seeing another vet might be a good idea, just to make sure that this one isn't a total quack.

But I would guess that your vet was worried about damaging the liver. You only have one liver and you need it to live!
Reply:Oh My this is a new one. I have never heard of this. Like the others I hope he at least removed her uterus so she can't reproduce. In any case I would call around and have another vet give you a second opinion. I would think he would want to at least tie the ovary off or remove the uterus any way because a pregnancy in this cat could be harmful to her as well.

Good luck.
Reply:I've never seen or heard that.

Was it at least tied off, so no reproduction can occur? Geez, sure hope so.

What about the other side? Was the uterus removed? You might need to consult with local area vets to get your answer, but I sure hope the rest of the procedure was done.
Reply:You could ask your vet if there is another vet who is comfortable with doing this, but when you start getting into the necessary internal organs, you might be better to just have her uterus removed. Any complications with the liver could cause your kitty could die or have to be put to sleep.

Most likely the ovarian placement is just a kitty deformity or birth defect, most likely not hereditary.
