fibroids are a disease of the uterus not the ovaries, ultrasound is a fairly sensitive test to diagnose ovarian masses, good luck
How common are fibroids on the ovary? And is ultrasound sensitive enough to diagnose one vs other masses?
i do not know how common they are, you may have pcos, not fibroids
Reply:Fibroids are not found in the ovary; they're usually in the uterus. They can also project from the uterus (which might look like they're on the ovary).
Ultrasound is sensitive enough to characterize the mass (ie. saying whether the mass is cystic or solid) which will help with diagnosis. However there are some ovarian masses that look very similar on ultrasound. If your doctor cannot make the diagnosis based on ultrasound alone, s/he may have you go for a CT or MRI.
