I'm scheduled for a Hysterectomy in December, my doctor doesn't think he'll be able to save anything, but if by chance he can leave a tube and ovary, will I still get my periods and will I still go into Menopause?? I'm only 31yrs old, no children and can't physically have any anyways due to complications. This is a very big step and I appreciate any serious answers. Thanx
Hysterectomy, If they leave one tube and ovary will I still get my periods??
no uterus=no period
no ovaries=forced immediate menapause
leave the ovaries and no uterus menapause when nature intended.
Reply:There will be no more periods but you may go through menopause. You'll be much better off if he can save an ovary. If not you'll need hormone replacement.
Reply:You won't get periods if your uterus is removed. So you will be in menopause. Leaving an ovary means that you will still have female hormones and be less likely to have to have hormone replacement.
Reply:you would still have your monthly. if you cant have kids then i would seriously consider having everything removed in December. I sure wish i had the first time.i had a partial hysterectomy then i had problems after that. they ended up doing a TAH(total abdominal hysterectomy)
Reply:Your uterus will be removed during a hysterectomy so you will no longer get periods!
Reply:Usually during hysterectomy, they remove everything. Periods are caused from the shedding of the uterus lining, so no uterus, no period. There is a strong chance that you'll go through menopause early and you'll need hormone replacement.
I know that this loss may make you feel less of a woman, but I haven't met anyone who regretted it. In fact, my old dance teacher had a full hysterectomy when she was in her late 20's and she felt free-er(sp?). She didn't have to worry about birth control, periods, and after the menopause was over with, she was free to be the woman she wanted to be.
Reply:You can't get a period without a uterus. A hysterectomy is removing the uterus so you won't get a period once it's done. My mom had one and still has both ovaries and tubes. She didn't have a period ever again but she is starting menopause. She still has her ovaries and they're still producing hormones so her body is still changing. Getting a hysterectomy doesn't put you into menopause though. It's just a little different than most women.
