I just had my ovary removed, will i need hormone shots?

i had my ovary removed yesterday along with a tube. and i was wondering if i will need hormone shot, and if i will skip a period. i would appreciate any information that you all can give me. thank you.

I just had my ovary removed, will i need hormone shots?
If you had both ovaries removed, you probably would need to have hormone shots. But, one ovary can compensate for the missing one and delivery the proper amount of hormones your body needs. Give it a few months, then your doctor may want to run a test to see your hormone levels; if they are inadaquate, then he may start shots.
Reply:If you just had one ovary and one tube you may not need anything. Now you may skip a period just because you had the surgery. You don't always have to have hormone shots. You can take pills or use patches. Hope this helps. Why not ask you doctor?

Reply:you dont need to worry about a hormone shot if that was removed. all the hormones you need come from your thyroid located somewhere near the neck. I am not sure about the period thing though.
Reply:I had both of mine were removed about 30 years ago and went on hormone pills. They made me have heart palpitations, so I stopped taking them about 2 months after and have not taken any since then. No doctor has said any thing about needing them.

Since I had both removed I had no more periods, so I don't know about what your cycle might be now.
Reply:Shouldn't you be asking your doctor...
Reply:pl consult yur doc regardin this. it's upto u to accept his advice if he recommends hormone shots or oral ones
Reply:IF YOU STILL HAVE THE OTHER NO!

IT DOUBLES IN SIZE AND TAKES OVER..AND YOU STILL CAN GET PREGNANT
Reply:The doctor never explained all that to you? You need to sit down with him and ask alot of questions. I dont know your hystory but i will say that i have friends who have had one ovary and tube removed and they didnt have to go through HRT.

I had a %26gt;complete%26lt; hysterectomy and I had to be placed on hormones.I opted for the patch instead of the daily pills. They are cheaper and you only have to put one on once a week.

Your choices are:pills,shots and patches.
Reply:You shouldn't need to take any extra hormones. One ovary still does a good job. You also probably won't skip a period. There are even people who can get pregnant with only one ovary. So your body should still function fine. You may find that your body may have a hard time adjusting to lack of hormones and if you experience other side affects then your doctor might give you some extra hormones. But one ovary should function just fine.
Reply:whoa,, i think u should ask someone who knows it well or ur doctor..

cant take the risk for these things
Reply:Why wasn't this discussed with your Dr before the surgery!? That is totally negligent on their part, also yours! You need to make a phone call asap!
Reply:With one ovary you should be ok with hormones. Don't think you will skip periods. You should talk to your doctor about all this - or the nurse. good luck
Reply:you may have a period every other month, however you should not need hormone replacement therapy because you still have one left.
Reply:I had that done about 15 years ago. Nothing changed. My periods were as they were before. No hormones needed.

You won't even notice a difference.
Reply:I had the same thing done about 9 years ago, my doctor told me my other ovary would take over and start producing enough hormone, that's why God made 2 of everything. Ok, like I said, 9 years ago, and i'm still waiting on it to produce enough for the missing one. You won't skip periods, but your PMS and issues like that can be affected. I've griped since day one, that my mood swings, PMS is much worse. They do blood tests yearly. There is a "normal range" of where your levels should be. Mine is on the low low low end of the normal range, so since i'm in the "normal" part, they won't give me any HRT. I've even told him that when I go on trial for killing someone (not really) he's gonna have to be a witness for my PMS. That didn't help either. PLEASE stress to your doctor that if you start having bad mood swings or worse PMS, that you need help. I begged for a complete hysto when they did my surgery, but to their better judgement, one ovary would do the job. YEAH RIGHT. Good luck!!!
Reply:I had to have my tube and ovary removed and no it doens't require anything and no it doesn't make getting pregnant any harder at all. I have only one and had it removed when i was 12 weeks pregnant due to an ovarian cyst that was causing problems. My children are 13 months apart. You only need one ovary and one tube to get pregnant.
Reply:you have two ovaries, so if you had only one removed, you still have another one and it will take over the load quite easily.
Reply:What, your doctors didn't tell you this?
Reply:First of all, if you just had this done, it`s your Dr. you should be asking this question to!

You still have one ovary, you wouldn`t necessarily need shots IF you needed estrogen.

As for a period, another question for your Dr.

You may miss one, but then you`ll get back to the way you were.
Reply:idont know i have a penis
