Can a cyst on your ovary that ruptures cause problem with bowel and intestines?

Had a ovarian cyst rupture and doctor ordered a ct scan. It showed inflammation of the intestine and bowel. Doctor thinks I have an Irritable Bowel disese. I am seeing a GI doctor next week. Could the inflamation be caused from being constipated and from the cyst?? Any thoughts??

Yes it can ,a cyst can press on the rectum, causing constipation, or on the bladder, creating an urge to urinate. Don't ignore these lesser symptoms. They could also be signs of a gastrointestinal disturbance or a bladder infection. Severe abdominal pain itself could also be due to appendicitis, an infection in the uterus or fallopian tubes, or an ectopic pregnancy so If i were you i would continue seeing your doctor regularly to make sure that is just a normal cyst that will go away so you dont have to deal with the pain.
Reply:Ruptured ovarian cyst is a separate condition. There may be adhesions formed between ovarian cyst and intestines but rupture of the cyst will not cause inflammation of the intestines.

Reply:It would be a good idea if you see a doctor to be sure, but some cyst are just fluid filled and when they rupture they get reabsorbed back into the body and then flushed out during your period, some are hemmoragic and are filled with blood, now if these stop bleeding on their own, sometimes your ok, but if it doesn't stop bleeding you could become anemic unless the doctor would calterize it. Usually, a ruptured cyst is accompanied with great pain in the lower abdomen, sometime you cannot even stand straight when the pain is so bad. So, you see, it is better to be safe then sorry, and you are your own best advocate, only you know how your body should feel. Good Luck

But depending on the nature of the cyst ( Malignant , inflammatory ) it may cause bowel adhesions and perhaps peritonitis that are distinct from above mentioned history that you depict .


IBS ( your diagnosis ) is the diagnosis on exclusion of other causes , it's due to hyperactivity of bowel sensory nerves and observe most often is anxious patients , so be calm and don't think about anything else of your life .
