I took my shepherd to the vet to be spayed and she could only remove one ovary.She did remove?

the uterus but the dog still goes into heat. This morning we were out in the yard and a male got to her.I did not see them lock but can she become infected of have a tubal pregnacy. Are there any dangers I should watch for?? ( besides male dogs)).

No, she won't have a pregnancy.


One of the main issues with altering too early is that some ovarian tissue can be left, so the dogs or cats still season. It's cruel.


I don't' know if that was your issue, but early altering is a bad idea for this and other reasons. It is more of a problem with cats than dogs to leave ovarian tissue behind.


What reason did the vet give you for not getting both ovaries? Couldn't she find the other one?
Reply:That doesn't sound right. To spay a dog both the ovaries and the uterus is removed. There should be no reason why the vet could not remove the other ovary and the uterus. I would contact that vet again or call another vet and ask their oppinion. I would be extemely upset if I took my dog in to be spayed and they only removed one ovary and left everything else. What was the reason for leaving the other ovary and the uterus? SOmething is not right there.
