How does the ovary decide which female egg gets to exit each month?

Is there an order in which they exit? Is there any research into how order is determined? Random? Survival of fittest? Physical position in ovary etc?


Age of Mom= to health of egg?


Order correlated to age of Mom or "fitness" of individual egg?

How does the ovary decide which female egg gets to exit each month?
LoL sweets ... well i think it is actually the survival of the fittest ,,,,,, well inorder to understan which egg gets choosen ... u must first know about ...FOLLICULAR STIMULATING HORMONE ( FSH) ... this is a hormone which is secreted by your pitutary gland during ur starting of a new menstrual cycle ..... and this stimulates a lot of follicles (developing eggs in your ovary) and all the follicles start developing and this is done by them developing receptors on their surface for the FSH . Receptors are like activating points and get activated when they come into contact with this FSH , and once activated they make the follicle develop into a egg .


But off all the follicles stimulated , the one which has the easiest access to the the FSH will start developing more receptors than the other follicles , and when it matures into a egg (before the other follicles) it will start producing oestrogen in high quantities , this oestrogen is a hormone which will inform the pitutary gland that a egg has matured and will stop the production of FSH





SO when the FSH has stopped all the other developing follicles die off , and only the developed egg ( it is actually called the dominant follicle) survives , and when a particular hormone called LEUTINIZING HORMONE (LH) , is secreted by ur pituatry , this egg gets shot out from ur ovary and via ur fallopian tube enters the uterus .





Sometimes 2 eggs can become the dominant follicle , and this may result in twins :) ( this is the usual reason for people who go into medical infertilty therapy and having twins )
